Web Hosting Reviews for Doteasy

We were doteasy customer for about 5 years and with every year service get worse and worse, so we finally deflected to a more reliable hosting company.

If you running website that nobody cares about and it is ok for you to be off-line for a few days, then you can consider this company for yourself.

Otherwise consider the following experience:

Security of doteasy shared server were bridged twice in past 6 months

Doteasy customer care replies 1 time in 24h for tickets. So any issue you may have can be resolved only in 2-3 days or longer.

Doteasy may take action to disable accesses to your site while stay unreachable to resolve the problem.

Last thing I want to mention that Doteasy bills in Usd and keep using exchange as 1.3, so make sure that you billed what you expect, not 30% more.

Overall it is hard to recommend this company any longer, even for non-critical hosting.

Doteasy refuses to release & transfer my domain unless I pay their "domain release fee." I initiated a transfer well in advance of expiration, but they locked the domain & didn't respond to my request for it to be unlocked until after it expired. Tech support has been useless so far. This company should be avoided at all costs.

Several times I've requested they stop billing me for service they no longer provide. I've even emailed back showing them emails I've had with their customer service. They requested my username and password to stop service, I sent them this (though wonder why since they are corresponding with my email address in their billing records). I'm still getting billing emails... seriously, how does one stop service with these people!

They even sent me a link, for a web email to fill out... I wrote a long email, only for the form to tell me that th domains do not exsist, erasing EVERYTHING I wrote down.

As for their service, their folks seem to be incompetant as well!

Doteasy.... eh, NOTSoEasy!

I have already reviewed Doteasy, but just had another less than stellar experience with them while trying to transfer away my last domain.

They don't make it easy, and in this case neglected my request until it was tool late and the domain is expired. Now they inform me that the have a hold on it for 40 days. Plus the offer the ominous warning that should I wait until the 40 days is over, someone might snap up the domain and I could lose it forever.

I am so completely dissatisfied with Doteasy that I can't describe. Doteasy's sneaky tactics to keep customer from getting out from under them feels like blackmail.

In short, my suggestion is to avoid Doteasy at all costs.

I've used DotEasy for a variety of sites for about 7 years, and their service has gotten steadily worse.

At first, my MySQL tables would spontaneously turn up empty -- lots of data lost. Complaints to support only elicited a shrug. They suggested I switch from Movable Type to some other no-name blogging software.

I'm paying for PHP5, but getting PHP4; that's due to their policy of charging longtime customers an additional fee to access new features. Crazy!

Their documentation is years out of date.

Support is polite, but they've been unable to resolve many of my complaints. It's gotten to the point that I've filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau about them.

I'm in the process now of moving all of my sites to DreamHost, which has been much easier to use.

I have been with Doteasy for more than six or seven years. I used to be satisfied with the service, but the last couple of years have really gone downhill.

Support has never been a strong point from Doteasy, but responses went from 4 plus hours at first to well over a day as of late. I will admit that they would work to find a solution with you, but you'd go through two or three rounds of how this is something that you have done and NOT a problem on their side. Once you could finally convince them that it was a DotEasy issue, (did you know that the results of phpinfo() can be wrong? ;) ) they would eventually find a solution.

DotEasy is just a web-hosting all-you-can-eat buffet. The problem is there are better buffets for less money, and much better buffets if you pony up a buck or two more.

Lastly, I have to echo what other reviewers have said about trying to transfer domains away from Doteasy; it sure is NotEasy! While they'll sell you a domain locking service for $7 a year, they don't tell you that the domain will automatically be locked for free anyway. And then re-locked anytime you make a change to the contact details.

When I asked DotEasy support (and I quote my question as well as their response) "why can I not find any mention of the automatic relocking in the event of contact information change?"

DotEasy support replied "We have elected to not mention this anywhere."

Well that's just being right upfront with the customer, huh?

There are many better choices of web-hosts other than Doteasy. For instance, I have moved on to Fused Network and the difference is night and day.

After five years of hosting and registering several domains and sites with Doteasy, i found another provider that met my more advanced needs at lower prices (Dreamhost). Doteasy was fine when i was just running a simple HTML site with a few extras with 100 Mb "free hosting" at $45/2 years. They offered this in 2004 and haven't changed at all with the times. And that was fine, even with sluggish service response, 'cuz hey, i wasn't paying much.

Well, i went to transfer the domain to the new registrar right after receiving a renewal notice, and doteasy put up all kinds of hidden barriers, locking the domain without my knowledge or consent and allowing it to expire before they replied to my support requests, saying, "there's nothing we can do now, it expired, you need to renew it with us (pay $25 min.) or let it go blank for 40+ days before registering with your new provider, taking a chance someone else would snatch it up."! I am still in shock at their deceptive business practices and unwillingness to make adjustments for mistakes they made. There were no posted transfer instructions or stated documents describing their auto-lock policies (apparently, you have to manually use the special support forms to contact support and request them to unlock the domain, a process that can take 1-2 days).

They were fine when i was their loyal customer, but using deceptive practice to try to keep me (with my website/domain as hostage) is downright bad business if it's not illegal.

I cancelled this account two months ago.....they acknowledged the cancellation and have still been charging my (soon to be) closed bank account for the package. They rarely replied to support tickets in less than 3 hours and getting rid of them apparently is not that easy. For the money, there are far too many other hosts out there with better service.

If you dont need php or databases, their $25 dollars a year domain name with free hosting is an excellent deal. Email, and various features such as a blog come with it. Support has always responded and been friendly and helpful. I havent noticed any significant downtime issues, possibly once or twice for a very short time. They also offer $4.95 domain names with free bannerless hosting for a year deals sometimes. $5 bucks for a .com and hosting!! Thanks Doteasy.com.
