IPowerweb / IPower clients enduring massive problems

Thu, 17th May 2007, 14:49

It seems that IPowerweb / IPower clientele are experiencing massive problems since Friday of last week. According to several Hostjury readers users of the IPowerweb / IPower service have been unable to check their e-mail since late Friday evening.

According to our sources it appears that Endurance International Group went ahead with their planned server migration without notifying any of their clients! The result is continuous problems and issues, clients unable to check their e-mail & unable to login to their web hosting accounts.

One IPowerweb / IPower user stated that technical support seems oblivious to the migration stating that the issues were a result of "Corrupt passwords" and would be handled within a few hours. Over five days later and the problems are still occurring.

We suppose the Endurance International Group name has another possible meaning. Just how long can their clientele endure problems!

I am outraged to see that everyone is having these problems. I have had problems with our site being available for the past week and multiple help tickets open. They have been able to restore my main site but everything in a database is a mess. I tried to export entries from a database this morning and it took down my whole site. Of course it has gone to their level 2 technicians again, but the site is now completely down. I have complained in my past few help tickets that they aren't telling me what is really going on. If there is a lawsuit, count me in.

  2. Ken Says:

I'm webmaster of a site that uses IPowerWeb and, like everyone else, experienced the "outages" in May. I had just happened to log in to the vDeck and saw the message of impending outage the next day. Unfortunately, I was in SoCal for a conference.

Again, I also experienced the outage this month with their entire site as well as ours.

My ongoing problem is that the FTP servers time out. It's not my client (I use thee different ones) or my location (from both work & home) so I know it's not my problem. I can't do a complete upload or download of the site.

    I'm finished with iPower.

  3. DAR Says:

Rats! I *knew* it was too good to be true. Ipower sure 'nough took my money, but I have been unable to access the sites I bought!

  4. PDM Says:

I’ve been with iPowerweb for almost 4 years. Had one major problem with them cutting off my site once, but other than that it has been uneventful.

Mid-May my site went down. Ipower did not give me any notification. My website’s email wouldn’t work. No control panel access. Email started functioning after 3 days or so, and then the site was accessible again, luckily. But I haven’t been able to update the site or gain access to the control panel since mid-May.

After about three weeks, I set up my site on another provider (Lunarpages). I have my domain names registered with another company, so it was no problem changing over the DNS pointers. A week after moving to Lunarpages, they send me an email telling me they’re going to do a server migration! At least they notified me. The site was a bit slow for a while, maybe a day, but everything seemed to go okay and the site is working fine now. If you can, move your site to another host as soon as possible.

Just discovered this site in trying to figure out why none of my IPower accounts are working. This has directly hurt my business and personal life and if there is a class action lawsuit I am definitely in.

  6. Bill C Says:

I run 6 sites through ipowerweb and have mixed responses to problems, sometimes they've been very responsive other times not.

At the moment it appears they are experiencing a massive outage that has taken down even their own site.

I'm wondering if they've gone out of business? Anyone have any ideas?

  7. Danna Z Says:

I did a bunch of web work Tuesday (hours and hours worth)and hadn't yet backed it up on my hard drive (lesson learned dismally) and not only was my site down today but now it is back up and all my new pages are gone, lost, (the artist formerly known as ipowerweb's last server backup was the 7th). I spoke to customer service and they said it's not their problem. They said it could have been a hacker. Right. Well, I suppose it isn't their problem, but the fact that i'm going to discontinue using them as a host for four websites is.

    David,

Please note that IPowerWeb is definitely under new management. They were purchased by Endurance International recently.

    Here are the full details:

    http://hostjury.com/blog/21/web-hosting-provider-ipowerweb-sold

I am *rarely* one to ever recommend someone change providers but after the ownership modifications at ipower it would be in your best interest to make a quick exit.

  9. David Holmes Says:

This is a real shame. I have used them for 4 years withouth problem and then in May my site was unavailable for what seemed to be weeks. Perhaps they have new management?

I'm a musician and don't get many people hit my site, just 40-80 a month, but if you check out my stats for May it shows 0 people! Nobody could access the site! :-(

I wish they would inform us of any planned downtime and compensate us especially some of you guys with full-time businesses that have lost out.

I now have a problem with FTP on the site. I have spoken to staff on the online chat many times and they keep me waiting and talk crap for 30 minutes or so then escalate to 2nd line who say they will email me when it's fixed , but I never get a mail and it doesn't get fixed.

I've tried calling to USA from my home in UK, which is expensive and after 30 minutes still no one answers.

Emails are simply replied to with "We will assume your issue has been resolved if we do not hear from you within 72 hours." I have replied to say that there is still a problem and nothing has been done.

These guys have become a joke. I will be moving to another host as soon as possible and joining in on your lawsuits :-)

  10. Neal Pritchett Says:

AFter having endured numerous outages of my site and my mail accounts, I am absolutely leaving ipower, today if possible. This one is the worst. When I try pinging my domain name, I get a message telling me that my host is unrecognized. Even the ipower site itself is down, so I can;t even get the phone number, or email, of some guy in India to swear at.

  11. unhappy ipowerweb customer Says:

just got through to a rep and he said that they won't get their entire system back up for a minimum of 6 hours but that it is quite possible for some folks to be up and running before others at various points in time before then.

He said "i'm dead in the water" and confirmed that we have no recourse but to wait it out, there is NO ipowerweb support online to access for updates, NO way to access a control panel, and NO way to even cancel your service until they get back online. He basically said I could call back later in the day for an update. Are you kidding? The only positive sign he gave me is that their call wait time was 2 hours this morning and now its down to 20 min so it seems that they're slowly getting back up & running and haven't just gone out of business just yet...

  14. Hostjury Admin Icon DavidJ Says:

    Thomas,

It's fairly easy to migrate to a new provider as long as you have access to change the domain's "DNS".

If you have any questions about it don't hesitate to contact me @ davidj@mckendrick.ca :)

  15. Thomas Says:

Just how hard is it to move a site with the domain ? I've been on Ipower for 6 years now, and until now, never had a problem. I've noticed the hits on my site have taken a dive over the past two months. Now I can get nothing on my site.

  16. BodyInBlack Says:

I just check our site and our clients sites and they are back online. Looks like iPower has resolved some of the issues and in record time. They must be feeling the pressure of a mass exodus.

  17. Hostjury Admin Icon DavidJ Says:

    Yes,

There is a proposed class action suit but I haven't heard any further details on it. There will be more information posted as it becomes available.

As for hosting recommendations I would *highly* recommend checking the list we have available of providers. They're all reviewed by end-users & ad-free :)

  18. John Tedesco Says:

Until today, I have never had an issue with Ipowerweb... I host 15 sites with them and always seamless. Even their tech support was always helpful within a day!!! This is a problem now... I've informed all my clients and they are aware.. but it seems like after this, they'll be on their way out of business.. my suggestion.. find a new host. FYI to all you web developers... original files for a website should NEVER be on the hosting server. NEVER!!! you should have NO problems uploading to another server. Unfortunately however, you will have to wait for ipower to be running again in order to transfer the domains, because they need to change the DNS address to do it. I feel your pain.

  19. unhappy ipowerweb customer Says:

I'm on the east coasat and all our sites are down this morning, the ipowerweb site is down too. Tried calling 'customer support' and at first the line was busy, now i'm currently on hold and the hold recording playing says they are 'experiencing network issues' and don't have an estimated time of when services will be up again...and to check out helpcenter.ipower.com for updates...just went there and its ALSO down. WTF?! these guys are affecting people's businesses...have we no recourse but to wait it out? Thank goodness for this blog, I randomly found it while googling ipowerweb and its offering more support than those clowns ever have...did someone mention a class action suit is that really happening?...

  20. greg tuke Says:

Like all of you, we are totally down this morning. I found a number for ipower 888-511-4678 but it is busy... why cant they post something on this site and let us know what the deal is?
