IPowerweb / IPower clients enduring massive problems

Thu, 17th May 2007, 14:49

It seems that IPowerweb / IPower clientele are experiencing massive problems since Friday of last week. According to several Hostjury readers users of the IPowerweb / IPower service have been unable to check their e-mail since late Friday evening.

According to our sources it appears that Endurance International Group went ahead with their planned server migration without notifying any of their clients! The result is continuous problems and issues, clients unable to check their e-mail & unable to login to their web hosting accounts.

One IPowerweb / IPower user stated that technical support seems oblivious to the migration stating that the issues were a result of "Corrupt passwords" and would be handled within a few hours. Over five days later and the problems are still occurring.

We suppose the Endurance International Group name has another possible meaning. Just how long can their clientele endure problems!

    Hello,

I'm glad I'm not the only one here. I recently had my platform converted to VDeck 3.0, and thats where the problems started. Its been six days since that happened, and its not even fully finished. The add-ons (blogs, PHP-Nuke, etc.) are no longer free as they were on VDeck 1.0 . I spent more time being rerouted through the Kiosk, than anywhere else - for nearly anything I do right now with my account. Its just insane! There appears to be no end in sight in terms of these issues being fixed in the short term.

After speaking with a iPower techie guy from the Philippines today (talk about outsourcing!), he suggested "powweb.com" . Not only are they cheaper, but they service what they sell (unlike iPower, where tech support is often confused as to how they got to work that day - much less know how to fix the problem). Yes, powweb is under EIG(?), but it could be better. The domain registration is free for one year, so a customer might consider registering a domain in one cheap place, and hosting in another. Powweb's domain registration after the free year is $15.00 (U.S.) yearly.

I will admit that after four years with iPower, I'm ready to move on...and that plan is in the works now. The only question is where....

Best of luck to all who still suffer.

    Eric,

While I do appreciate the ol' link to the class action suit, that isn't going to get anything done.

I'm going to contact the Arizona Attorney General later today & I do hope you all do the same, they're available at:

    consumerinfo@azag.gov

You can also use their online contact form here:

This will get some noise made on your behalf. I'll write another post about it shortly.

I agree with all, I've been using ipower for like 3 or 4 years, everything fine. Last week when the upgraded the platform to vdeck 3.0 every site that I was managing went o a complete mess. mysql databases are not working, my wordpress blog screw, emails, everything! This is not fair, I have more then a week with my sites down.

  5. Eric Says:

    Great comments.

We have a few sites up using Joomla and Joomla extensions. In short php-MySQL based content management system.

The transition has done the following:

    1. removed many php/xml files from certain Joomla extensions.

    2. Change some directory permissions to all-execute only...

    3. List some files as unmovable due to certain issues (using a ceratin command, etc..)

    4. vdeck 1.0 won't let me upload a file with a long filename (I'm just trying to replace what they erased!).

    5. ftp doesn't work - upload says disk is full (we're using less than 10% of our alloted space).

I would love it if they can restore our data so I can get out of there..

Me too---nothing but headaches with IPower. I suggest filing complaints with Arizona Attorney General's office and Arizona Better Business Bureau. Let's get a class action lawsuit off the ground.

    http://www.northcountrygazette.org/news/2007/12/16/boycott_ipower/

The website for the AG's office is at www.azag.gov It says that they cannot represent a specific individual consumer but, rather, a class of consumers, so maybe if we could get various people to band together with us, we could get the ball really rolling.

  7. Trali Says:

I have been having email problems with StartLogic for the past two months and have had not one but TWO support tickets open in regard to this issue during all this time. Neither has been addressed in any way. I have tried calling, talking with someone via live chat, even emailing my account manager (whom I know personally), all to no avail. I have told the account manager that I expect immediate assistance from StartLogic or I will call the Attorney General's office and file a complaint. I have already checked with their website at www.azag.gov and have found what I need to do to file a formal complaint. Given the documentation that I have found of their wrongdoing and other problems for the past few years, I think it would be quite easy to get the AG to come down hard on StartLogic/IPowerWeb.

If anyone wants to email me their contact information and brief synopsis of problems, I will gladly forward that onto the Attorney General's office when I get in touch with them.

My direct email address is (please remove the xxx's that are in to help prevent spam) jbevanxxx@bdcusaxxx.xxxcom

If I do not hear anything from them by the end of tomorrow (12/17/07), I will contact the AG's office first thing Tuesday morning.

    Who's with me?

Check this out, and you will understant that your "little problem" (e.g. mail not working) is far from being #1 priority these days at ipower:

  9. Dave Says:

I finally received an email responding to my complaints today. Guess what, their answer is completely foreign of any complaint I have sent in. Ipower say's my account is past due since September, when in fact their billing console show's me paid up until 9/16/2008, which is correct. I have an automatic cc debit posting for my billing. I think they are just grabbing at straws to try and buy some time.

Sorry, still no sign of a proper class-action being organized. There's lots of discussion for it going on out there but no one stepping up to the plate.

Any of you legally inclined folks should really get together. I'll see what we can do about getting a forum going here again to help communication roll.

  11. Josh Says:

7 days and counting without email. Emails to account bounce back to sender, so even once email is working again, I will never be able to see just what business opportunities I have lost. I will join any class action lawsuit brought against iPower.

  12. Steve Says:

Same as everyone here. Ipower really bites. They keep telling me they are going to have Tier 2 support look at the problem ( can't publish with Frontpage to my site and contact forms no longer work, since moving to new server ) look at it. Believe their is NO TIER 2, 2 weeks and still waiting. If a class action is filed please let me know.

    Steve

  13. Dave Dickson Says:

Ipower moved to new server??? I can't get into my web site since, it comes up "This site has been suspended" This terminology leads my customers to believe I've done something to deserve suspension??? Every time Ipower "improves" our service, problems are extreme. I have sent 6 emails, called and been put on hold for 33 minutes until I hung up, and can get no one to acknowledge my inquiries. Hope people read this blog before making a decision on Ipower web.

  14. Chris Says:

Where is everyone going to? I've been on hold with iPower today for more than 2.5 hours.

  15. linda Says:

Oh boy. I thought it was me. Lordy. Get me outta here. Ditto, ditto on all of the above. Called to cancel but was another hour wait. Breathing deeply now. Life is beautiful. There's chocolate, and my cats. Think happy thoughts.

  16. Matthew Says:

I Called Billing at ipowerwebs they have over charged my ATM cards. Reasons for turning off php includes AT IPOWERWEBS?..i don't know. Bluehost.com is good company.

  17. Jean Says:

So glad to find this site. I cannot believe their customer service is so poor and they are still in business! One of my websites expired even though I renewed it (and they charged me for it). I just was chatting with iPower and he said it WAS renewed...but the domain itself is showing ads and says it's expired. Still waiting for the billing chat person he transferred me to.....30 minutes later.

  18. Darrell Says:

I am getting killed. 2 websites and email inaccessbile. Ready for a class action. No response from ipower even after assigning case numbers.

  19. dee Says:

our story is the same as everyone's, count us in on a lawsuit. Ken, what hosting company did you go with and how did you get out of IPOWER, who has our site under their control, hense the name "I" POWER

  20. tqt Says:

I'm really glad I've found this thread. It has been extremely frustrating for me the past week dealing with customer service. Every call has been a 30 minute wait and the longest was 90 minutes. I couldn't believe it today when someone actually answered the phone in 10 minutes but guess what, that rep didn't know anything and I had to call back again...and again another 30 minutes wait.

One interesting thing I did notice this past weekend (12/8). I had called support to renew my domain name. Coincidence or not, on 12/9, there was a credit card fraud attempt on the card that I had used to renew the domain name. Someone tried to charge $1200 against BodyBuilding.com, which I have never visited before.

I've also emailed both their billing department and support and got a response 4 days later from billing and nothing from support. They blame it on the current move to the vDeck 3.0.

It is amazing how they can stay in business. I've decided to take my business elsewhere and hopefully end this frustration.
