IPowerweb / IPower clients enduring massive problems

Thu, 17th May 2007, 14:49

It seems that IPowerweb / IPower clientele are experiencing massive problems since Friday of last week. According to several Hostjury readers users of the IPowerweb / IPower service have been unable to check their e-mail since late Friday evening.

According to our sources it appears that Endurance International Group went ahead with their planned server migration without notifying any of their clients! The result is continuous problems and issues, clients unable to check their e-mail & unable to login to their web hosting accounts.

One IPowerweb / IPower user stated that technical support seems oblivious to the migration stating that the issues were a result of "Corrupt passwords" and would be handled within a few hours. Over five days later and the problems are still occurring.

We suppose the Endurance International Group name has another possible meaning. Just how long can their clientele endure problems!

    I purposefully selected "manual" on the transition options that they had been announcing for a few months, because I didn't want to be out of control during the transition. But, last Tuesday 1/22, mid-day, our FTP connection broke (even though we hadn't moved) and after hours on hold both on live chat and phone and no support email responses, I finally found an FTP fix by setting up a new user and password to the ROOT of our site (i.e. / instead of /public_html directory) via the FTP accounts section of the 1.0 vdeck. So our site is working OK, including our PHP BB, and we an edit files finally after a week of nonsense from their service people. I'm so glad we didn't have an automatic transition now!

    Nik, to connect to mySQL using php, use this:

    <?php

    $username = "USERNAME";

    $password = "PASSWORD";

    $hostname = "DOMAINNAME.ipowermysql.com";

    $dbh = mysql_connect($hostname, $username, $password)

    or die("Unable to connect to MySQL");

    print "Connected to MySQL<br>";

    // you're going to do lots more here soon

    mysql_close($dbh);

    ?>

    You will have to change the username to your username, the password to your password, and the DOMAINNAME, to the name of your domain.

    On ipower's new vdeck 3.0 platform, they have changed the mySQL hostname from "localhost" to "DOMAINNAME.ipowermysql.com" in all php-mySQL connection strings.

    For some reason, ipower does not mention this anywhere on their online help documentation, and it is difficult to get an ipower tech willing or knowledgable enough to share this important information.

    Hello.

    I badly speak English, but I shall try. Well?

    To execute the setup of shop on hosting from ipower.com, I should specify the IP-address of a MySQL-server for the script.

    Inform please the IP-address of a MySQL server from ipower.com.

    I do not understand why it is not written anywhere in the help.

    Incase anyone is staying with ipowerweb and runs a php site, I thought I would share this.

    When they ipowerweb migrates your account to vdeck 3.0, your php scripts that access mySQL will not work. In order to get them to work, you will have to follow these steps.

    First, login to vdeck, goto MySQL Manager, then create your old databases (database names, username and passwords for the php connection strings), then set the username and passwords for each database, then click Administer to login to the phpMyAdmin tool. From there, you need to upload your mySQL backup copy. I experienced alot of problems when the checkbox is checked, the one that reads

    Allow interrupt of import in case script detects it is close to time limit. This might be good way to import large files, however it can break transactions.

    I don't know what it is for, but when I unchecked it, I had no problems uploading my database backups. Hopefully, you used the phpMyAdmin tool to make backups of your databases. Rather than using their backup feature. As nethier of their old vdeck 1.0 backup utilities (site backup or mySQL backup) will make backups that you can actually use or restore from.

    If you do not have a backup of mySQL, then you will have to manually recreate each table in each of your databases.

    Next, you will need to change ALL of your connection strings from "localhost" to "DOMAINNAME.ipowermysql.com"

    Change the DOMAINNAME to your domain name, minus the www and .com.

    I found an easy way to find and change all the connection strings. I used Microsoft FrontPage's find and replace feature, and searched my whole site for all of the php connection strings that read "localhost" and replaced it with "DOMAINNAME.ipowermysql.com".

    I hope this helps anyone that is staying with ipowerweb and runs a php based website.

    I am so disapointed in the "un-customer service" I have received from Ipower after 4 years & 2 accounts later. They should have been more prepared for this update. I am unable to log into my accounts, I did get logged into one of the accounts (once) uploaded all the files I needed, but they are not uploading to the actual website. Customer un-service is not in the least bit willing to resolve. I will be moving my accounts. Maybe everyone else will also & do to lack of customers they will fold.

    WOOt WOOt!!

    Just sat on hold for the 3rd time in two days and finaly got to talk to someone who didnt just hang up on me. Got my MX servers swapped out so I can use google for my emails till I abandon Ipower!

    All of my clients emails have been deleted by Ipower!!!! including my own emails.

    Next step will be calling that number above after I hook up some new hosting for all 21 of my websites!

  9. Tony G Says:

    Yes! I got an email from iPower stating that my refund has been processed.

    Screw their 30-day notice for canceling when you can just call Endurance and have them cancel it. Thank you guys once again for posting that 1-888 number!

  10. 108billy Says:

    I just went on a contact spree with every news paper and news station in arizona.

    I think everyone should do the same!

    Shoot....I even contacted CNN.

  11. Casey Says:

    I have several websties with iPower. One has been the very model of good hosting it's been up for several years with absolutly no downtime, perfect emails, just a good experience. The site i'm doing now for a company i'm working for has been an absolute nightmare. It all began when I installed their quickSSL certifictate they resell for GeoTrust. When they installed it my stats completely stopped counting. When i realized this i asked them to fix it of course, which resulted in my site and emails being down for nearly 21 hours. When the site came back up, all the emails for that site and ftp access did not work. They just fixed my emails and my site is now down again! I've spent about 10 of the last 24 hours on hold with them and I was thrilled to find this page. I can't get them to fix more than one of the problems at a time and when they fix one thing they seem to break the other two. I want to build a bunch of thatched roofed cottages and burn them down like a viking raider i'm so angry! Again, thanks for this page and the info on migrating to a new host.

    Being that this is my first website and Ipower was my first hosting company I didn't realize how bad this company was until they forced me and my website to a new server.

    The server switch rendered my site useless and I was down for over a month and I never recovered because they never fixed the problem.

    it was truly a nightmare and my biggest mistake was thinking that Ipower was going to help and they never did. all the prior complaints are true. 2 hour waits were not uncommon just to be disconnected or given the run around. the tech support was ungodly.

    the only thing that took me by surprise is that they did refund my money. I was not expecting that. maybe they are realizing the hole they are in.

    well, it was a wake up call. now I use Servint, It costs much more but the speed and the reliability and the tech support is top notch. If you own a website for the sake of running a business don't be foolish, not only would I avoid Ipower but I would avoid shared hosting altogether.

    But I would have to say that Ipower is a true bottom feeder with a horrible customer service philosophy. Do not do business with this company !

  13. TheVoice Says:

    There is nothing at http://www.sydness.com/

    Its a blank white page saying Hello, was there and actual site here?

    as far as hosted by Bizland ya sure they own it along with, Fatcow, so that's to be expected I guess they feel it to be more reliable then the other garbage they own such as IPOWER

    If you ask me this company owns

    way too many companies and in my opinion destroys them so for example if you look for a host look out, as Endurance owns a lot of them so you may be stuck in a loop ... you have been warned lets list a few to stay far away from as they are all owned by Endurance International

    Endurance International: This company’s been on an acquisition spree, snapping up 27 shared hosting companies ...

    Don't you feel they should be under investigation? I do as they have a very bad track record I think any company that's got money to burn and buys up hosts which is big business and can destroy peoples businesses and lives in the process which the IPOWER acquisition has proved, shouldn't be able to buy anything even related to the hosting business, they should buy soft drink companies or candy companies that woudnt destry peoples lives they should be banned from ever buying any hosting companies they have no business being allowed to own a hosting company check there track records and you tell me ...

    Also please every one here signup and voice your opin in this class action lawsuit against IPOWER any lawyers reading this please also visit this link.

    https://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/just-say-no-to-i-power-web

    FatCow, Purehost, Powweb, Hypermart, Xeran, Bizland, Appsitehosting (Appsite or Appsite Hosting), Bluebox, Blue Box, Entryhost, IPOWER, IPOWERWEB.

    These may also be owned by Endurance but are not confirmed.

    AccountSupport, DomainHost, eHost, FreeYellow, HostYourSite, IMOutDoorsHosting, USANetHosting, VirtualAvenue, and YourHostingAccount.

    Please do your home work.

    I had a client who choose ipower for there hosting a couple of years ago and everything was fine until 4 or 5 months ago. The site is completely inaccessible and asking for a username and password when you go to the site. I reuploaded the site and was still asking for username and password. I have been on hold for hours trying to get a hold of their tech support and when I got a hold of them they said they knew exactly what it was and it would be fixed within 24 hours. Its been two weeks and it still has not be resolved. This is ridiculous. I am trying to get my money back for the entire year. Do not sign up with Ipower hosting!!!!! I use BLUEHOST for all my clients and have had no problems.

  15. Sparky Says:

    Thanks for the phone number, i cut down on my hold time to 3 mins!!! I know they are having migration issues but should hire more people to answer those issues.

    thanks again!!

  16. Cindy Says:

    I too am having many problems with ipower. The people are friendly when one can actually reach them; but the problems are not being resolved for the most part.

    I have a .com account with numerous web pages and 2 discussion forums. At this time the discussion forums are both down.

    I was on hold for hours in live chat and got disconnected somehow while trying to explain to the "tech support" the problem.

    I have called I Power several times since the VDeck transition and have been on hold for hours without getting a clear resolution.

    Even though I just renewed IPower, unfortunately I cannot take a year of this. I am hoping to find better web hosting at an affordable price that offers pretty much the same menu that IPower does.

    Thank you for reading this.

    Cindy

  17. Tony G Says:

    UPDATE:

    I have signed up with HostGator. I'll follow up and let you all know if they are good.

  18. Tony G Says:

    866-897-5421 sure is the magic number.

    I called and got through to someone in a few minutes so I can cancel my account with iPower.

    Funny thing, though, is that in order to pro-rate my refund, woman on the phone could not find the date when my renewal was processed. This information, apparently, did not get transferred with the migration. She said it should take 24 to 48 hours for iPower to get this info to Endurance.

    If all goes well, then my refund should be processed this week.

    I suggest you do the same if you are still a customer at iPower!

  19. Hostjury Admin Icon David Says:

    Linda,

    That's excellent news, I'm glad to hear things were handled for you.

  20. Linda Says:

    To John. I just heard from the Attorney General's office regarding our class action. The letter stated that my problems were resolved. First I was credited with five dollars, then on 1/10/08 ipower refunded my entire year's fee. I'm happy. While I'll never know how many sales were lost, at least I recieved a full refund. Thanks for letting me jump on the bandwagon.
