It seems that IPowerweb / IPower clientele are experiencing massive problems since Friday of last week. According to several Hostjury readers users of the IPowerweb / IPower service have been unable to check their e-mail since late Friday evening.
According to our sources it appears that Endurance International Group went ahead with their planned server migration without notifying any of their clients! The result is continuous problems and issues, clients unable to check their e-mail & unable to login to their web hosting accounts.
One IPowerweb / IPower user stated that technical support seems oblivious to the migration stating that the issues were a result of "Corrupt passwords" and would be handled within a few hours. Over five days later and the problems are still occurring.
We suppose the Endurance International Group name has another possible meaning. Just how long can their clientele endure problems!

I "tried" to escape ipower in the spring of 2007, it had turned into a real nightmare, but kept them as a Registration Service Provider for several domains; big mistake.
One domain, which had had hosting canceled in '07, was still being charged annually for hosting. Finding out that the front office had been paying the bill, I called ipower. The client will get about $45 back from the 2009 renewal, but that's it as ipower says they "have no record of the cancellation," and apparently no records at all about customer activity.
A 2nd domain's information apparently just vanished; ipower could not find it, even though I got to spell it for them phonetically 5 times. With no renewals or emails, it has fallen into Redemption Period, what a headache. HOURS on the phone, ipower says contact TucowsInc, ipower is not the Registrant, TucowsInc say contact ipower, ipower is the Registrant; nobody can do anything unless they get $160.
A couple other domains cannot have the name server information modified because ipower appears to be unable to supply me with the proper information to access opensrs. What boggles me is when did the access info get changed, and who changed it?
I do not recommend ipower.

I've been having problems with Ipower for a long time.
For the last 6 months or so, it's been fine.
However they suspended my account the other day, saying "it's in violation of the TOS" I need to remove videos.
Here's the deal, it's a wordpress blog with about 15 posts, site size 29 megs.
I keep telling them there are no videos, and they keep telling me to remove them.
this is insane. They temporarily reactived my account, but will suspend if files are not removed.
This is like the jet-eye mind trick.
You have videos, no I don't, you have videos, no i don't.
I can't deal with this.
Can someone email me a recommendaton on a host that won't do this to me.

I've been trying to fix the slwo loading problems thinking it was something I had done wrong. Glad to know better.
So, what's the best alternative to iPower?
Tue, 12 May 2009, 22:40
Ninon the best advice I can give you is simply, make a backup of all your stuff and then run away from this host. Ipower was at one time a great host when they were based in Santa Monica California long ago, but by around 1996 they turned into a nightmare, and I was put through a living hell. Hostgator might be a great one and there are others, but do try to secure your site elsewhere unless you love aggravation and wasting your time which is your most precious commodity you have.

We purchased an SSL certificate. We have been on the phone for 4 days now. I couldn't get past the technical assistants who obviously can hardly speak english and do not understand a written technical question. The 1-888-511-4678 is going to take you to the Philippines. You can't get anywhere at all using this number for advanced technical problems.
We have now called the 1-866-897-5421 suggested and got an English speaking person in New Brunswick Canada. Hooray! We are waiting to see if this does any good. Time is money and this is really becoming a problem.
We are trying to launch a product in a week. I am now completely concerned for our future customers.
Could you please suggest any other reliable hosting services that can deal with large volume? And...if you know of companies who have customer service based in North America...that would be terrific!

Just a quick FYI. I just canceled my service with IPower and found that the number for Endurance International was useless, as no customer support seemed to be even at work. I then called IPower's suggested support number (888-511-4678) and got through within seconds. The cancellation process surprisingly took only about 5 minutes. The longest part was the useless cancellation survey they ask you to take. Let's hope it really was that easy and I don't see any bogus charges on my credit card later on *fingers crossed.

i have been with Ipower since day one and in the last month with the emails down and still not working right then charging me for domain privacy on a domain I no longer have and renewing domains that I did not want any longer and then charging my cc for other things who know what they were for. I called my cc and disputed all charges. Ipower then suspended my main domain hosting account that was paid in full and told me unless I release the chargebacks they will not start my hoated account up again - then they tried to block them so i could not move them. But I had all the transfer info so I moved everything and my site is up and running and email is fast.
Warning to everyone get away from Ipower they are going down!

IPower's latest scheme is charging for the whois protection on your domain name that they originally sold you for free. They inform you that your website will be effected and if not paid you could even lose your domain name in a clear and obvious scare tactic. They auto bill your credit card account by default rather than having the customer set to manual billing. I believe this is all illegal because if they sold you and you accepted the whois service as free as it was advertised, they should not be allowed to disable this before your domain name renewal is up, which they are clearly doing in my case as this domain in question is within 4 years purchase with whois for free for those 4 years so we have a breach of contract there. They also made my control panel access unavailable so I could not change it and now their billing people are saying the whois not being paid means they can cancel my hosting and domain name registration, which again does not sound right. Anyone else care to opinion on whether they can cancel my domain name for not continuing with whois.

If you're trying to get charges refunded don't ask Ipower - they'll mess you about, talk to your card issuer and dispute the charge.

When I was finally able to contact someone at tech support I got nothing but people who were obviously uncaring that I was unable to get into my website through V-Deck. They sent me a new user name a password several times and neigher of them worked. After that they just put me on hold and forgot I was there. I have had an account with them for several years now, but since they allegedly moved from California the whole operation has gone bad. They charged my credit card without authorization, which included an increase in the annual fee, and I'm still trying to have that refunded. There's nothing special about iPowerweb other than the fact it's now a joke, and I'll not entertain the thought of doing business with them in the future.

Ipower Sucks. When you talk to them no body understand Database even supervisors.
Great company with experts. How can a ecommerce site hosted on Ipower MYSQL database?????. I am pissed off by them. I am almost having head aches when I talk to them. When they moved my mysql database to the new server, they screwed up the move and went and edited my application so that it will appear as it was accessing mysql database. When I contacted IPOWER tech support. the guy told me Unfortunatly there were problem moving your database to the new server and thats it. He told me that i was responsible for taking backup of mysql. I didn't even know that thet gonna move the database. I would never recommend anyone go with IPOWER as it has not having experinced techies who could do the work and more over it is a scrap hosting commpany.
By the way thanks for this site as I am little bit happy that I could find many in my shoe.

I have been battling iPower and Startlogic for 3 years! Startlogic vDeck migration never worked and a secondary domain I setup has never worked. I am still battling with iPower over unauthorized billing to two credit cards. They promised refund, never refunded, and then started billing monthly on another card I had used in the past. I agree with other posts here, need to get away from these folks.
Thu, 11 September 2008, 00:12
UPDATE: My husband noticed his startlogic hosted page is down also.
History: It's not uncommon to note that when IPower hosted sites go down; StartLogic hosted sites go down, too.

I decided to stay w Ipower last yr because I had url w them, domain and did not want he hassle. Figured as long as I did not have to talk to them, hahaha. It all came crashing down last night.
Trying to get it all straight, I ended up w a 2 yr contract today what!#@#$# did I do? Tired, exhaused, far from angry y - e - t, but it is in qtr payments and i can cancel card if I have to.
For my problem in billing: Calling Endurance got a man who could not hear me and hung up. Then a woman who could not change the billing or cancel my new contract. So back to 'Ipower onhold'.
Their cm4all is not holding the data changes on pages. I lost several pages last night when it froze during a simple save, all saves had worked all evening. Have even learned to log out and go back after an hour so it does not get boggled by too many changes, but last night all work gone in second. Then I realized some pages I have done in past week were also gone, and it has been ongoing but I kept thinking I was doing something wrone, being a novice.
No one really knows anything, tier 2 was to work on it, then was told cm4all is allegedly responsible for their 3rd party program and fixing the problem today. I think, after eading this, that is in their manual to say to clients. Then they apologize when disputed and act stupid.
What I have learned lately.
NOTE: If you are on hold for 2 hours you will be cut off and have to start over, it is in their system, they admit that.
NOTE: You can purchase their $12.95/yr backup for your site, or you can back it up yourself using the ftp.html under my computer. Copy and paste to your own file to upload if needed.
NOTE: If you use chat for problem, you can get a rep who will keep you on chat hold forever becaue she will pusposely not answer you, esp if you get irritated taht she is not answering you. I know this becasue when you are ready to choke her she says to have anice day, she was there filing her nails all along. Beware, there are many.
NOTE: The Support console does not always let you read the dialogue, so you don't know what is happening.
NOTE: The suport reps do not ever really read the questions. Ever, this has been from the beginning for me, 3 or 4 yrs now.
Aggravated and tired in Indiana, already.

Beware with the backups, since they are in a format which you may not be able to restore. This is especially a problem with larger databases, which need to be restored with special software (eg "bigdump") to prevent the restore process from timing-out. I recommend you pressure ipower into giving you a full refund - it worked for me - and move elsewhere poste-haste.

Ever since the transition to the "new platform" my site is experiencing server failures several times a day. I'm only continuing with them because I'm paid for the next year in advance.
They've got a scam now where you can't get a full backup of your site, without paying extra for it. I raised Cain with a tech rep and got the old style backup added to my vdeck. Now everything is backed up, I'm not changing anything, and I'm done with them when my account comes due for renewal in March.

My website got hacked, and in spite of complaining and reporting at many sites, the evil copy of my website still comes up in search engines. The evil site is www.tesselliott.com, and uses all my code, text, and artwork that takes you to some strange IP and puts badware on your computer. I am totally stuck not being able to send people to my site when the bad one comes up. How can I get it shut down?
